Jodhpur Polo Season 2020 is Being Conducted till December 31st, with Covid 19 Guidelines

The XXIth Jodhpur Polo season 2020 is being organized at Maharaja Gaj Singh Sports Foundation Polo Ground, Cantt Area under the auspices of Jodhpur Polo and Equestrian Institute, Jodhpur. The XXIth Jodhpur Polo Season ‘2020’ started on December 14, 2020 and will be played till December 31st with Covid 19 guidelines set by IPA.

Colonel Ummed Singh, honorary secretary, Jodhpur Polo, and Equestrian Institute, said that due to the Cornonavirus pandemic this year only 4 tournaments and some exhibition will be played in Jodhpur Polo season 2020. In Jodhpur polo season 2019, six tournaments and eight exhibition matches were played.

Jodhpur is one of the important polo center in the world. Polo and Jodhpur have shared a very strong bond since the 19th century. In 1897, Maharaja Pratap Singh took his local polo team, the Jodhpur Lancers to England, where their performance against the home teams made people sit up and take note.

Maharaja Gajsingh Ji, the present head of the erstwhile Jodhpur royal family, carved out a new grass ground in the shadow of the Umaid Bhavan Palace in 1997; he is also the ambassador and founding patron of the Jodhpur Polo and Equestrian Institute.

Jodhpur Polo Season ‘2020’ Tournament Schedule

The XXI th Jodhpur Polo Season ‘2020′ already started with H.H. Maharaja of Jodhpur Cup (8 Goals) played from 15-19 December, 2020. Rajputana and Central India Cup (10 Goals) is being played from 21 – 26th December and Polofactory Maharaja of Jodhpur Golden Jubilee Cup (10 Goals) will be held from 27 – 31st December, 2020.

On 19th December 2020, HH Maharaja of Jodhpur Cup Finals (8-Goals) was played between Rajnigandha Achievers and Achievers ONN. The Rajnigandha Achievers team won the cup with the lead of 5 Goals.

On 20th December 2020, an Exhibition Polo Match 2020 was played between Bhavnagar Tigers and Bhavnagar Knights. In that match, Bhavnagar Tigers won the game with the lead of 1 goal.

Following COVID 19 guidelines and as per the directions from Indian Polo Association the ground is not open for the public.

Indian players including Mr. Simran Singh Shergill, Mr. Syed Shamsher Ali, Mr. Dhruvpal Godara, Kr. Vikramaditya Singh, Kr. Dhananjay Singh, Col. Ravi Rathore, Mr. Kuldeep Rathore, H.H Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh Of Jaipur, Mr. Ashok Chandna, Mr. Chirag Parikh, Kr. Vikramaditya Barkana, Maj. Mritunjay Chauhan,  Mr. Mahendera Singh, Kr. Sidhant Singh, Mr. Jaiveer Gohil, Sameer Suhag, Saiyyad Bashir Ali, Abhimanyu Pathak, Angad Kalan, Vishal Singh, Gaurav Sahgal, Uday Kalan, Salim Azmi, Lokendra Singh Rathod, Siddhanta Sharma, Tarun Bilawal, Bhawani Singh Kalvi, Kr. Pratap Singh Kanota are expected to be seen in action for this event.

Among foreign players, Mr. Daniel Otamendi, Allen Shaun Michael, Will Amerson, Gaston Devrient, Sam Browne, Torrey Ripinsky, Malcolm Borwick, Bash Kazi, Capt. Mossy Hamilton, Lieutenant Jamie Drummond Moray, Tieyarnan O Rourke, Greg Sater, Greg Caoubs may attend the Jodhpur Polo matches.
