Jodhpur Bhogishail Parikrama, The Kumbh of Marwar


Bhogishail Parikrama is a Hindu Pilgrimage which happens in every three years of the “Purushottam Maas (अधिक मास)” or “Malmaas” month of the Hindu Calender. Bhogishail parikrama means to take a parikrama (circle) of this earth (earth) and thanks to God for the wonderful life. Most of the pilgrimage journey during parikrama prevails in the lap of nature, making its course to various religious places through difficult hills and terrain. Devotees also pledge to save and protect the environment by worshipping trees all along the way to the temples.

जोधपुर भोगिशैल परिक्रमा is a seven-day pilgrimage with seven stoppages at various religious places and is usually cover around 110 km. It is also known as the “Kumbh of Marwar” and almost twenty-five to thirty thousand devotees take part in this pilgrimage and visit temples and religious places to earn “Punya” or saintly goodwill or a place in heaven as its common belief.


अयोध्या की 24 कोसी और ब्रज की गोवद्र्धन परिक्रमा की तरह पूरे एक सप्ताह तक आयोजित आस्था के सफर में जोधपुर शहर सहित मारवाड़ अंचल से  श्रद्धालु शामिल होते हैं। हिन्दू सेवा मंडल के बैनर तले आयोजित आस्था के सफर के दौरान श्रद्धालु जोधपुर शहर के चारों तरफ भोगिशैल पहाडिय़ों की 110 किमी की पदयात्रा करते हुए प्राचीन धार्मिक स्थलो में सत्संग तथा प्राचीन जलकुण्डों में स्नान कर आध्यात्मिक पुण्य लाभ अर्जित करते है।

Jodhpur Bhogishail Parikrama 2018

This year Bhogishail parikrama happened in last week of May 2018 i.e. from May 24 till May 30, 2018. आस्था के सफर की शुरुआत 24 मई को दोपहर 3 बजे हिन्दू सेवा मण्डल कार्यालय घण्टाघर में ध्वज पूजन के साथ हुई। विनायकिया में बिछडिय़ा गजाननरातानाडा गणेश दर्शन के बाद प्रथम पड़ाव रातानाडा क्षेत्र में रहता हैं। परिक्रमा 25 मई को अलसुबह रातानाडा गणेश मंदिर से रवाना होकर 13 किमी दूर अपने द्वितीय पड़ाव स्थल चौपासनी पहुचती है।

The pilgrimage was scheduled such as there are seven stoppages for seven days, starting with Ganesh Temple Ratanada on 24th of May, Chopasani on 25th of May, Barli (बड़ली) on 26th of May, Baidyanath (बैद्यनाथ) on 27th of May, Beri Ganga (बेरीगंगा) on 28th of May, finally reaching Mandore on 29th of May.

परिक्रमा के अंतिम पड़ाव मंडोर उद्यान के बाद परिक्रमा यात्री 30 मई को सुबह संतोषी माता मंदिर, कागा तीर्थ शीतला माता मंदिर, शेखावतजी का तालाब, उम्मेद भवन होते हुए सुबह 11 बजे रातानाडा गणेश मंदिर में दर्शन किए। उसके बाद शोभायात्रा के रूप में कुंजबिहारी, गंगश्यामजीघनश्यामजी मंदिर के दर्शन कर यात्रा घंटाघर मंडल कार्यालय पहुंचकर विसर्जित हुई।

During this 7-day long pilgrimage, devotees get to visit religious temples and places like Bichadiya Gajanan, Riktiya Bhairuji, Choupasani Shyam Manohar, Arna-Jharna, Bhadreshwar Mahadev, Mandalnath, Jogitirth, Daijar Mata, Beriganga, religious sites of Mandore, Nimba-Nimbadi, Santoshi Mata Temple, Kunj Bihari and Gangshyamji temple to finally complete the Yatra.

Support From NGO and Government Agencies

There are numerous festivals and fete which are organised in Marwar region but the speciality of this fete is that there are a dozen teams of volunteers who come from Hindu Seva Mandal and other local स्वयंसेवी संस्था व धार्मिक सामाजिक संगठनों, who volunteer to help and make this event a grand success without any mishappening. They guide the pilgrims step by step and make their journey easier and smoother.

They also ensure the safety of the luggage and belongings of the pilgrims. They assist the pilgrims for the complete seven days of the event. In the history of this event, there has never been case recorded of lost property or stealing or loot. There has never been any criminal activity during the pilgrimage throughout the course of its history.

This event where devotees come to find peace of mind and eternal power is also a perfect example of self-discipline and organisation of masses. Along with this, Maheshwari community also provides a lending hand by providing accommodation facilities to the devotees. The seven-day pilgrimage also pays a visit to Ummaid Bhawan Palace during its course and the royal family of Jodhpur, His Highness Gajsingh Ji, Hemlata Rajye and Senacharya Achalanand Giri also acknowledge the devotees and wish them good fortune.

Dress Code of Volunteers

Volunteers carry belongings and luggage with them in vehicles. 30 volunteers who wear red t-shirts collect the belongings of pilgrims. Another group of 30 volunteers wear yellow t-shirts and are tasked to return the pilgrims’ belongings. Pilgrims never have to carry their belongings and only have to walk freely, dancing and celebrating with other pilgrims immersed in devotion to their god.

Token System

Devotees bring their clothes, beddings, and other stuff in boxes, bags etc. Volunteers attach a token with the luggage while collecting it and provide the person submitting it with a token of the same number. The luggage is returned to only that person who shows up the token given to him previously.

This pilgrimage gives serenity and peace of mind not only to the devotees and fete but also to the volunteers, who make the event more caring and spiritual. This tradition has been going for years.
