Salman Khan Gets 5 Year Jailterm In Blackbuck Poaching Case, Others Accused Let Off

A Jodhpur court headed by CJM Rural (Chief Judicial Magistrate Rural) Dev Kumar Khatri convicted actor Salman Khan in the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case and awards five-year simple imprisonment (jail term) and imposes a fine of Rs 10,000. Other co-accused, Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre have been acquitted in the blackbuck poaching case due to lack of strong evidence. The trial of the case has been in progress for the last 20 years.

Salman’s lawyers Hastimal Saraswat and others plan to move the Sessions court as well as the Rajasthan High Court for bail. If the bail application is not heard today, the actor will have to spend the night in Central jail today.


Salman Khan Gets 5 Year Jailterm In Blackbuck Poaching Case, Others Accused Let OffThe actor’s lawyers will approach the Rajasthan High Court for bail and get the appeal cleared before the court closes for the day at 5 pm. Since he has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment, he has been taken into custody and is likely to spend the night in Jodhpur Central Jail, if bail is not granted today.

For now, Salman is taken to Jodhpur Central jail, where Asaram Bapu is lodged in a rape case.  In August 2013, Asaram was arrested by the Rajasthan police for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl at his Jodhpur ashram.

Following reports of the jail sentence handed to Salman Khan, people from the Bishnoi community could be heard cheering on loudly.  As quoted by News18, Salman Khan’s sisters, Arpita Khan Sharma and Alvira Agnihotri, broke down inside the court after the verdict was announced and the actor tried to console them.

For this around 20 years old case, on this Wednesday (March 28, 2018), the court of Jodhpur CJM Rural (Chief Judicial Magistrate Rural) Dev Kumar Khatri has reserved the judgment for today, April 5.

In 1998, Salman was in Jodhpur for shooting of his movie ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. Salman Khan was charged in Jodhpur with four cases of poaching and one case under the Arms Act in September-October 1998. The Blackbuck Poaching Case dates back to the night of October 2, 1998, when Salman Khan allegedly shot two blackbucks in Kankani village, Luni Tehsil of Jodhpur. He also had other actors in the film. It is alleged that Salman hunted deer at Ghoda Farm House and Bhavad village on 27-28 September night. On October 2, at Kankani village, Actor is accused of hunting black deer.

The alleged poaching took place near an area inhabited by the Bishnois, a traditional community that protects the deer and remains vigilant against poachers in the area. The blackbuck is an endangered species and is protected under Schedule 1 of the Indian Wildlife Act. The punishment for hunting blackbuck is under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, which can be up to six years in jail.

On event date, the villagers, on hearing gunshots, came out running. They allege that they even chased the Gypsy that Salman Khan was driving and that the actor fled the scene, leaving the carcass behind. The Bishnois were key witnesses in this case against Salman Khan.

Salman Khan has Rs 400 to Rs 600 crore riding on him in the Bollywood and TV industry and the verdict will affect three major film projects. The 52-year-old actor was in the middle of shooting “Race 3” the film, being directed by Remo D’Souza. ‘Kick 2‘, ‘Dabangg 3‘ and ‘Bharat‘ were yet to start so there isn’t a much monetary loss. “Dus Ka Dum“, “BigBoss 12” are also in pipeline. It is a huge loss to the industry and trade as he is a big star who guarantees big success.

Cases Sentenced and Remaining Against Salman Khan In Jodhpur?

1) Blackbuck Poaching case (Kankani): In this case, CJM Court had announced the sentenced to 5 years and a fine of Rs 10,000 on April 5, 2018.

2) Ghoda FarmHouse Case (घोड़ा फार्म हाउस केस): On April 10, 2006, the CJM Court had sentenced to 5 years. Salman went to High Court. He was acquitted on July 25, 2016. The state government has appealed against this decision in the Supreme Court.

3) Bhavad village case (भवाद गांव केस): CJM Court convicted Salman on February 17, 2006, and sentenced to one year’s sentence. The High Court has acquitted Salman in this case too. The state government has appealed against the verdict in the Supreme Court.

4) Arms Case: On January 18, 2017, the court acquitted Salman. The state government has appealed against this decision in the high court.
