The Bhado Mahina, popularly known as the Bhadrapada month mainly devoted to Lord Vishnu is the sixth month in the Hindu Lunar calendar, after Lord Shiva ‘Shravan Mahina‘. Bhadrapada maas is calculated from the first Purnima or full moon to the next Purnima. Devotees enjoy this month as lots of Hindu Festivals in Bhadrapada month to celebrate. This month is considered as one of the four auspicious months of the Hindu calendar.
हिंदू पंचांग का छठवां माह भाद्रपद (भादौ) कहलाता है। हिन्दू पंचाग का भाद्रपद महीना भादौ, भादवा या भाद्र के नाम से भी जाना जाता है that corresponds to August/September in the Gregorian calendar. In India’s national civil calendar (Shaka calendar), Bhadrapada is the sixth month of the year, beginning on 27 August and ending on 25 September.
इस महीने में आकाश में पूर्वा या उत्तरा भाद्रपद नक्षत्र के योग बनने से इस माह का नाम भाद्रपद है। यह चातुर्मास के चार पवित्र महीनों का दूसरा महीना भी है। इस माह में स्नान, दान तथा व्रत करने से जन्म-जन्मान्तर के पाप नाश हो जाते हैं। ये माह खास इसलिए भी माना जाता है क्योंकि इस माह में विभिन्न व्रत और त्योहार पड़ते हैं and it is said that it is also the ideal time for someone to go on a pilgrimage.
Bhadrapada month means lots of festivals, celebrations and mainly devoted to Lord Vishnu. In 2018, Bhaado month is starting from August 27 after the Raksha Bandhan festival (Shravan Month Poornima). In Vedic Jyotish, Bhadra begins with the Sun’s entry into Leo and is usually the month of the year and this will happen on 23 August 2018. According to Vedic Jyotish, Bhadrapad month is from 23 August (Thursday) till 22 September (Saturday), 2018.
In lunar religious calendars, Bhadra begins on the new moon in August/September and is the sixth month of the year. The festival of Janmashtami– the birthday of Lord Krishna, Ganesha Chaturthi-celebrating the birthday of Ganesha, Baba Ramdev, Radhashtami– The Goddess Radha birthday is observed in this month. The Poornima of the Bhadrapada is reserved for the veneration of the dead. This period is known as Pitru Paksha.
